Natural Stone Design Benefits

Leading architects, designers, building professionals, and homeowners who want longevity, eco-friendly design, and unparalleled character choose natural stone for their projects. Natural stone is equally pleasing outside or inside. It compliments other building materials, is reliable, durable, and easy to maintain. Luxury residential, commercial, and municipal projects all benefit from the use of natural stone; so do the occupants, residents, guests, patients, and visitors who frequent the places built of natural stone.

Swedish Hospital in Issaquah

Natural stone is the most versatile building material. There is a natural stone product for every application and a finish to achieve any look desired. The Swedish Issaquah Campus design highlights two unique looks for the same natural stone, limestone:

HDG Turtleshell Limestone

This coursed ashlar wall cladding installation has a continuous feel and look as it transitions from the outside to the inside of the building. The mushroom finish gives the stone a distinctive appearance that compliments other nearby objects and materials. By hand finishing the stone using traditional masonry tools – chipping the stone with controlled blows of a hammer – the finished stone adds both texture and shadow to the building’s architecture. Irregularities of each individual stone work together to form visual harmony.

HDG Perlino Grey Limestone

Limestone is a sedimentary stone formed from organic elements including water, plants, and animals. This project features a fireplace hearth made of Perlino Grey Limestone slabs rich with visible fossils. The honed finish provides a smooth, flat, consistent surface without glare. These are ideal characteristics for a raised fireplace hearth.
