Project Overview
The Adventure Path is a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists. It’s nestled within Lewis and Clark Landing, a key attraction at The RiverFront, an exciting urban revitalization initiative spanning 72 acres of downtown parkland along the picturesque Missouri River. Comprising three exceptional parks, including Gene Leahy Mall and Heartland of America Park, this collective effort has transformed the city’s landscape into a unified and vibrant public space.
Adventure Path Project Highlights
Our collaborative effort brought the Adventure Path project to life, working closely with our client and partner teams. The project features a captivating serpentine trail with elevated ipe decking supported by a robust metal frame. Ipe decking was selected as the decking materials given its durability and beauty. Each piece was carefully secured to the steel plates and cross members underneath using carriage bolts, the ultimate choice for ensuring the ipe decking’s attachment to the steel framework.
Taming the Curved Path
The curved path presented a unique challenge, requiring precise cuts. To ensure flawless execution, the entire structure was prefabricated in a warehouse. Each piece was carefully labeled, disassembled, and then reassembled on-site. Some photos from the installation process showcase the detailed fabrication work that took place in the warehouse, including the use of plywood in the early stages.
“We had an amazing time working with HDG Building Materials for the Omaha Riverfront Revitalization Project. We were very pleased by the patience and support provided by Jay and the staff at HDG. They were helpful with design, engineering questions, takeoffs, and even a change to the type of wood we needed for the final project. The public is now enjoying the beautiful Adventure Path Walkway with its IPE Wood Decking.” – Andrew Ferguson, Fry & Associates, Inc. Parks and Playgrounds

Ipe: The Ultimate Choice
Ipe is renowned for its exceptional durability and striking beauty, making it a premier choice for outdoor spaces. This decking material boasts outstanding resistance to scratches, exceptional hardness, long-lasting durability, and exceptional stability. It demands minimal maintenance and holds the highest ratings for insect (termite) and decay resistance. With a lifespan of 3-5 times that of most other decking materials and a Class A fire resistance rating by NFPA, ipe wood decking ensures a lasting and secure outdoor experience.
HDG ipe board decking is ethically sourced from well-managed South American forests, aligning it with eco-friendly principles and making it an excellent choice for sustainable projects.
