Metric and Rectified
Porcelain pavers sizes can be confusing to understand. Porcelain tiles are metric and rectified meaning they are trimmed square and a few mm shy of being the listed metric measure. Why? Porcelain tiles are made from natural clay and silicas that get pressed into a mold and fired in a kiln. During the process the tiles shrink to their finished size. There can be more than 1% variation among tiles. To eliminate this variation the tiles are rectified, meaning cut to an exact size and machine finished to create a perfectly square edge. This gives the tile a finished look and ensures the porcelain pavers are uniform in size and consistently square. For example, HDG Neros is 60x60cm rectified with actual dimension 595x595mm, 23 7/16 x 23 7/16″.
